The 2025 Cycle Has Now Opened.

Please fill out the form below to submit your story. An email address is not required. All submissions will be kept strictly confidential.

Thank you to the Me Too Monologues for shaping The Story Project and our submission guidelines.

Deadline is January 10th, 2025 at 11:59 AM

We want all stories: sad, happy, funny, scary, angry, contemplative - stories about identity, family, science medicine, school, illness - big moments and little ones.

We want all formats: anecdotes, poems, speeches, blog posts, songs, conversations, interviews. Really, absolutely any format is acceptable.

We also encourage stories written by groups in addition to those from individuals.

No story is too small.

Prompt: Share with us a story of an experience that has shaped you, whether in the hospital/graduate school or in the rest of your life.

For length, aim for 1-2 pages single-spaced, or up to roughly 1,000 words. When reading the piece out loud, aim for it to be up to 4-7 minutes long.

Writing tips

  • Don’t approach it like an academic essay.

  • Write it like you’re saying it to somebody. Try reading it out loud.

  • Your story does not need to have a moral or a tidy ending. Not all stories are like that.

  • Remember, everyone has a story.

If you want to submit a story, but aren’t sure how to put it on paper, or think it is better told through another medium, please email us. We’d be more than happy to work with you.

Anonymity

This form asks for a story code. You will make up a 3-figure combination of letters and numbers and input it in the designated field. Keep this code! After we choose stories that will appear in the show, we will post the codes so that you know if your story was chosen. This way, there will be absolutely nothing linking your name to your submission. Your anonymity is guaranteed.

If you decide to share your contact information with us, the directors will reach out to you to hear what degree of confidentiality you would like to maintain.

Editor’s Note

We reserve the right to edit pieces that are too long or contain information that makes a person identifiable. Please change any identifying details of a person and be mindful to comply with HIPAA rules. We also reserve the right to edit pieces that are too long (>1,000 words) to ensure the maximum impact of the story and other stories in the performance. If you would like creative control over edits please note it in your submission and include a good way to get in contact.

While we are an official student organization of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, we value our separation from the school’s administration and feel strongly that all student voices should be heard.
